New Allman Brothers book debuts on New York Times Best Sellers List

*One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers Band*, a new book about the legendary southern band, has debuted on the New York Times Best Sellers List.

The biography debuts at No. 10 on the Hardcover Non-Fiction list this week.

Written by Alan Paul, a senior writer for Guitar World magazine, the book is being issued to coincide with the band’s 45th anniversary this year.

“One Way Out” is an oral history of the Allman Brothers Band culled from hundreds of hours of interviews, including many never-before-published sessions with band members Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Jaimoe, Butch Trucks, Warren Haynes, Derek Trucks, Oteil Burbridge, the late Allen Woody, Jack Pearson and Jimmy Herring, plus Eric Clapton, Tom Dowd, Phil Walden, Rick Hall, Billy Gibbons, Dr. John, Scott Boyer and others.

The biography also includes a highly opinionated discography with short reviews of over 50 albums from the ABB, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Gov’t Mule, Derek Trucks Band and more.

“One Way Out” is billed as the most complete exploration of the Allman Brothers music yet written, tracking the band’s career arc from their 1969 formation through their historic 40th anniversary star-studded Beacon run, right on up to today.

“One Way Out: The Inside History of the Allman Brothers Band” can be ordered via the Amazon links below.

Gregg Allman recently confirmed that the Allman Brothers Band will stop touring after marking their 45th anniversary this year; his comments came on the heels of a joint announcement by guitarists Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks that they’ll be leaving the group at the end of the year.

The group will launch their final residency at New York City’s Beacon Theatre on March 7; they’ll play 14 dates at the venue before hosting their 10th annual Wanee Music Festival in Florida in April.

"Si usted quiere saber el verdadero negocio, lea Alan Paul", dice Allman Brothers bajista Oteil Burbridge acerca de One Way Out: The Inside Historia de The Allman Brothers Band (St. Martin Press).

Johnny Cash Gets Remixed by Elvis Costello

It’s no secret that Elvis Costello is a fan of Johnny Cash. He’s covered Cash songs numerous times throughout his career, including a live version of Cash’s early hit “Cry Cry Cry” that wound up on the reissued version of Costello’s country tribute album Almost Blue.
Now Costello has taken his appreciation of Cash a step further, by releasing a remix of a previously ‘lost’ Cash song, “She Used to Love Me a Lot.” That version of the song is currently streaming on Pitchfork.
The remix is set for commercial release on Record Store Day (April 19), as part of a limited 7-inch single that will also feature Cash’s original version of the song. That original version was cut in the 1980s but set aside for decades, and is now resurfacing on the upcoming ‘new’ Johnny Cash album, Out Among the Stars, that’s finally seeing the light of day later this month (March 25).

Out Among the Stars is not a reissue or a collection of demos. It’s a full studio album Cash recorded in the 1980s and then, after his record company (Columbia) chose not to release it, stashed away in the family archives for three decades.

Cash’s son John Carter Cash is overseeing the album’s release. “I really love this song,” Carter Cash told Rolling Stone about “She Used to Love Me a Lot,” which was unveiled this past January. “The depth that’s there reminds me of the real serious stuff that Dad did later in his life. And I truly think it’s one of the beautiful undiscovered gems in my dad’s catalog.”

The ensemble that accompanies Cash on Out Among the Stars includes a young Marty Stuart on guitar and mandolin as well as Nashville A-Team members Jerry Kennedy (guitar), Pete Drake (steel guitar), Country Music Hall of Fame member Hargus “Pig” Robbins (piano) and Henry Strzelecki (bass). The album also features a duet with the late Waylon Jennings and two with June Carter Cash.

She used to love me a lot.
