REM lanzará actuaciones en 'MTV Unplugged'

El álbum de la banda estadounidense "R.E.M. Unplugged: The complete 1991 and 2001 sessions" estará disponible a partir del 19 de mayo próximo en formatos CD y digital, e incluye el audio de las dos actuaciones que realizó para MTV.
La agrupación entregará dos de las actuaciones más aclamadas en la historia dentro de las series "MTV Unplugged": La primera en 1991 y la segunda en el año 2001.
Esto marca la distancia del resto de los proyectos dentro del concepto, al ser la única banda en aparecer dos veces, aseguró MTV mediante un comunicado.Desde el fin de semana pasado ambas actuaciones fueron puestas a la venta en formato cuatro vinyles de edición limitada. La colección incluye la presentación del "show" original en 1991 y 11 canciones que nunca fueron transmitidas.
El baterista Bill Berry, el guitarrista Peter Buck, el bajista Mike Mills y el cantante Michael Stipe grabaron su primer "Unplugged" en 1991, mientras comenzaban a gozar del éxito que inició en 1987 con el lanzamiento de su primera producción comercial titulada "Document".
Gran parte del material en audio que se incluye en esta sesión "Unplugged" proviene del disco "Out of time", el cual vendió millones de copias a nivel mundial.
Además, se convirtió en el primer álbum número uno en Estados Unidos para el grupo. De ese disco, la formación musical interpretó: "Radio Song", "Low" y el gran éxito americano "Losing my religion".
El setlist de aquella sesión incluyó ocho años de música, través de cinco discos, con los temas: "Perfect circle", del álbum debut "Murmur" en 1983.
Y favoritos de los fans como "Fall on me" e "It's the end of the world as we know It (And I feel fine)". Así como un "cover" de The troggs, "Love is all around" y cinco canciones que nunca fueron transmitidas.
R.E.M. realizó una segunda aparición en su "Unplugged" del año 2011, pero esta vez sin Bill Berry, su baterista original, quien dejo la banda en 1997 por motivos de salud.
La agrupación se enfocó a reversionar su disco número 12 de estudio, "Reveal". Con canciones como "Imitation of life" y "All the way to reno (You're gonna be a star)".
También fueron elegidas ocho discos diferentes con temas como "So, central rain", del disco "Reckoning" de 1984; "Cuyahoga", de "Lifes rich pageant" y "Find the river", la cual cierra la placa de 1992, "Automatic for the people".
Esta colección revela seis temas de esta sesión que nunca fueron transmitidos ni revelados, incluidas canciones de discos como "Reveal" y "Up" (1998), así como una versión nueva de su clásico: "The one I love", del disco de 1985, "Document".

R.E.M. delivered two knockout performances on MTV’s acclaimed “Unplugged” series, the first in 1991 and the other in 2001, giving them the unique distinction of being the only band to appear on the series twice. Surprisingly, audio from both shows has never been available, making these some of the most demanded music in the R.E.M. vaults. That all changed this past weekend on Record Store Day 2014, when Rhino released both performances as a limited edition, four-LP vinyl set. The collection includes every performance from the original broadcasts, as well as 11 songs that never aired. Following the sell-out of the limited edition vinyl Rhino will release the collection digitally and as a 2-CD set on May 19th.The “Unplugged” performances are sonic snapshots that capture the band at important points on its journey from alternative-music pioneers to international stars that have sold more than 85 million albums.
Drummer Bill Berry, guitarist Peter Buck, bassist Mike Mills, and singer Michael Stipe recorded their first “Unplugged” session in 1991, while riding a growing wave of success that began in 1987 with the commercial breakthrough of Document. Much of the performance spotlights songs from R.E.M.’s then-current album Out of Time, which sold several million copies and was the band’s first #1 album in the U.S. From the album, the band performed “Radio Song,” “Low” and its biggest American hit, “Losing My Religion.”R.E.M. made an extremely rare second appearance on “Unplugged” in 2001, but this time without original drummer Bill Berry, who left the band in 1997 due to health reasons. For the show, the band focused mainly on its 12th studio album Reveal – which came out that year – with performances of the singles “Imitation of Life” and “All The Way To Reno (You’re Gonna Be A Star).” The song selection draws from eight different albums with “So. Central Rain” from 1984’s Reckoning, “Cuyahoga” from 1986’s Lifes Rich Pageant and “Find The River,” the elegiac album closer from the 1992 classic Automatic For The People.
This collection uncovers six songs from the session that were never broadcast, including tracks from Reveal and Up (1998), as well as a haunting and tranquil re-imagination of the band’s breakthrough single, “The One I Love” from 1985’s Document.
