The Beatles’ A Hard Day’s Night Returning to Theaters this Summer
The Beatles’ feature film debut, A Hard Day’s Night, will return to theaters this summer, Janus Films has announced. A new digitally restored version of the much-lauded musical comedy will hit screens nationwide over the Fourth of July weekend. Directed by Richard Lester, the original movie was shot with a production budget of just $500,000, and went on to gross more than $12 million.
According to the Los Angeles Times, Janus Films hired producer Giles Martin—son of Sir George Martin—to remix and remaster the soundtrack at Abbey Road Studios, for 5.1 sound systems. The film features such classic songs as "I Should Have Known Better," "If I Fell," "Can't Buy Me Love" and the title track. The re-release marks the 50th anniversary of A Hard Day’s Night’s premiere at London’s Pavilion Theatre in 1964, at the height of Beatlemania. The newly restored version premiered earlier this month at the TCM Classic Movie Film Festival in Hollywood.
