Jimi Hendrix Biopic to Debut in September
Jimi Hendrix’s biopic All Is by My Side is finally ready to get its debut. The movie will enjoy its premiere at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival, which is set to run from Sept. 5 through Sept. 15. The film stars Andre Benjamin (Andre 3000 of hip-hop duo OutKast) and documents Hendrix as his career was blossoming in England in 1967 and ‘68.
More of the cast includes actresses Imogen Poots and Hayley Atwell, playing Hendrix’s girlfriends Linda Keith and Kathy Etchingham, respectively. John Ridley (Three Kings, The Wanda Sykes Show) wrote and directed the documentary.
Synopsis
Jimmy James (André Benjamin), an unknown backup guitarist, left New York City for London, England in 1966. A year later he returned — as Jimi Hendrix. All Is By My Side brings authenticity and poignancy to the story of the man behind the legend, and of the people who loved and inspired him. The cast includes Imogen Poots, Hayley Atwell, Ruth Negga, Adrian Lester, and Ashley Charles as Keith Richards. It's written and directed by John Ridley, a writer/producer turned filmmaker whose only other feature film is 1997's Cold Around the Heart. At the moment, this film doesn't seem to have a US distributor or release set yet.
