Blondie singer Debbie Harry is considering retirement – and the move would signal an end to the band’s career.
Discussions have been going on for nearly a year between the 68-year-old and the rest of the band, according to drummer Clem Burke.
He tells the Daily Mail: “Debbie is 11 years older than the rest of us, so it’s on her mind.
“We’ve tried to keep it going for as long as possible, but it’s just not up to me.
“Nothing is finalised yet – but obviously there’s no Blondie without Debbie Harry.”
A spokesman for the veteran vocalist says: “They are on hiatus at the moment and they will do some tour dates next year. Nothing is confirmed yet.”
Meanwhile, Burke has also explained how Harry didn’t realise she’d upset an audience in Liverpool last month by telling them she loved rival city Manchester.
He says: “It went down so badly that we were forced to play a rendition of the Beatles’ Please Please Me. Poor Debbie hadn’t joined the dots, so I had to intervene.”
Blondie’s latest album. Ghosts of Download, will be relaxed in the autumn. The band last month launched lead track A Rose By Any Name.
