Vivian Campbell y amigos, en gira tributo a Ronnie James Dio...Xtreme Rock Monterrey

Vivian Campbell has performed live for the first time with Last In Line, his new band, and is dedicated to playing the songs of the first three Dio albums. And he's brought his original Dio-era Les Paul along for the ride.

Campbell and Ronnie James Dio worked together on the first three DIO albums 1983's "Holy Diver", 1984's "The Last in Line" and 1985's "Sacred Heart" — before Irishman Campbell left to join WHITESNAKE in 1987.

As well as Campbell, Last In Line features founding Dio members Vinny Appice (drums), Jimmy Bain (bass) and Claude Schnell (keys), along with vocalist Andrew Freeman (Lynch Mob, Hurricane). The band played a low-profile show at Slidebar in Fullerton, California as a warm-up for their UK tour.

Campbell used his official Facebook page to explain his guitar choice for the tour: "I'll be taking 72987537, my original Dio-era Les Paul on the tour with my trusty, silver-sparkle, bastardised '78 Custom as a back-up," he wrote, adding that he would be plugging straight into his amp with no effects.

The band will play at Limelight in Belfast, Ireland on August 8, Cathouse in Glasgow, Scotland on August 9, the Bloodstock festival in Derbyshire, England on August 10, and at Islington Academy, London, England on August 11.
They're also booked for Japan's Loud Park festival in Tokyo on October 20. "We had hoped to do a more comprehensive European tour, but scheduling conflicts prevented it this time around," the band explains on their website. "However, going forward there will be many more shows in many more countries."
